Aeralume App Privacy Policy

Effective: October 7, 2026

Aeralume is made and operated by John Peter Partners LLC ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy or your data: use the contact form or email support@aeralume.store.

Aeralume is a private photo journal for tracking visible change in your face and body over time. It's built so that your photos never leave your iPhone. The only thing that's ever shared is what you choose to post in the Community tab.

What Aeralume stores, and where

  • Your photos (face and optional body photos) and anything you add to them: notes, habit tags, favorites and optional weight.
  • Your stack: the supplements or medications you list and when you started them.
  • Measurements you choose to make: tape measurements and body-fat estimates, 3D face scan measurements (numbers only; no 3D images are kept), and visible-change measurements calculated from your face photos.
  • Old photos you import from your Photos library ("Old photos"). Aeralume only sees the photos you pick, and removes location and other hidden data when saving them.
  • How you feel: the mood you tap at check-in and any side effects you log.
  • Promises, experiments and sealed notes: the promises you make, the experiments you run and their results, and notes you seal for your future self.
  • Your settings: your name, goals, reminder time and preferences.

The home-screen widget only shows your streak and day number, never your photos. If you use Share on a before-and-after image or a timelapse video, or Back up all photos, those files go only where you choose (for example your Photos library, iCloud Drive, Messages or Instagram). Nothing is shared unless you choose to.

You can lock Aeralume with Face ID. Face ID is handled entirely by iOS; Aeralume never sees your face data.

All of this is stored only on your iPhone, inside the app. Photos are encrypted by iOS whenever your phone is locked. We (the makers of Aeralume) never receive, see, upload, sell or share any of it.

Community (optional)

If you choose to post in the Community tab, we store:

  • the community name you pick,
  • your reviews, comments and replies (including star ratings, how long you've taken something and what you noticed), which are public to other Aeralume users, along with your contributor label (for example "Contributor"),
  • your likes and dislikes on comments (like counts are shown publicly; who liked what is not), and
  • any reports you make about other people's comments.

These are stored in Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) public database, linked to an anonymous ID that Apple creates for our app. We can't see your Apple ID, email address or real name. Your photos are never part of the community. We use this data only to show the community and to moderate it (reviewing reports and removing content that breaks the community rules).

You can delete all your community posts, replies and votes at any time in Settings › Delete all my community posts. Posts stay until you delete them, or until we remove them for breaking the rules.

Research

To show the newest studies, the app asks PubMed (the U.S. National Library of Medicine's public research database) for recent trials on the supplements and medications listed in Aeralume. Only the search terms for those items are sent, never your name, photos, stack or anything else about you.

Experiments

Experiments you run (for example, testing collagen for six weeks) are analyzed on your iPhone from your own check-ins. If you choose to share a result with the community, only the supplement, the experiment's length and the verdicts (for example "redness: better, mood: no real difference") are posted, along with your community name and, only if you choose to include it, the GLP-1 medicine you were taking (so people on the same medicine can compare). Your photos, measurements and notes are never shared.

Challenges (optional)

If you create or join a challenge, we store the challenge's name, goal, length and start date, its 6-letter code, your community name, and which days of the challenge you scored a point (a list of day numbers, nothing else). Everyone in that challenge can see names and points on its leaderboard. Your photos, notes, weight and health data are never shared. This is stored in the same CloudKit public database as the community. Challenges involve no money or prizes. Leaving a challenge, or Delete all my data in Settings, removes your entries.

What we do not do

  • We don't collect your photos, health information or usage analytics.
  • We don't use advertising, tracking or third-party analytics tools.
  • We don't sell or share your data with anyone.

Face and body photos (biometric information)

Photos of your face and body can be considered biometric or health-related information under some laws (for example in Illinois, Texas, Washington, the EU and the UK). Aeralume asks for your consent before you take your first photo. Any processing of your photos (for example, lining up today's photo with a previous one) happens only on your device. To line photos up, Aeralume finds where your eyes (or, in body photos, your shoulders and hips) are in each photo and saves those few points on your iPhone. It never sends face geometry, these points or any other biometric identifiers off your iPhone, and never uses them to identify you.

Retention: your photos stay on your iPhone until you delete them. You can delete any photo, or all photos (Settings › Delete all photos), at any time. Deleting the Aeralume app permanently deletes everything it stored.

Apple Health (optional)

If you connect Apple Health, Aeralume reads your weight, sleep, steps and exercise minutes to fill in your daily check-in, and saves weight and body-fat estimates you log, and workouts you finish, to Health. Health data stays on your iPhone. It is never sent to us or anyone else, and never used for advertising. You can disconnect in Aeralume's Settings or in the Health app.

Camera and notifications

  • Camera: used only to take your progress photos, and optional 3D face scans if you turn them on in Settings › Labs. Face alignment, light matching and 3D scanning are processed on your iPhone in real time and not stored, apart from the resulting measurements.
  • Notifications: optional daily reminders, scheduled on your iPhone. You can turn them off in the app or in iOS Settings.

Backups

If you use iCloud Backup or back up your iPhone to a computer, Apple's backup may include Aeralume's data, as with other apps. That's handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, not by us.

Cheer squad comments

The encouraging comments on your photos are written by bots inside the app, based on what you log. They never see or analyze your photos, and nothing is sent anywhere.

Not medical advice

Aeralume tracks visible change only. It is not a medical device, doesn't diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, and isn't a substitute for advice from a doctor or other qualified professional.

Children

Aeralume is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
