The Before Photo Guide

How to take a before photo that actually shows change, and when to expect it.

1. Take it before you start

Before your first dose, your first scoop or your first workout. It’s the one photo you can’t take later.

2. Same spot, same light, every time

Stand facing a window in daylight, so the light falls evenly on your face. Avoid overhead lights, which cast shadows under your eyes, and direct sun. Use the same spot every day.

3. Phone at eye level, arm’s length

Hold the phone straight, at eye level, the same distance away each time. Tilting it up or down changes how your face and jawline look more than a month of real change.

4. A neutral face

Relaxed mouth, eyes open, hair back from your face. No filters, and the same makeup (or none) each time.

5. Body photos: same outfit, same pose

Fitted clothes you’ll wear every time, arms relaxed at your sides, standing tall, from the front and the side.

6. Same time of day

Mornings are best: before eating and after the bathroom. Water and salt can change how your face looks by evening.

When to expect change

  • Collagen, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C (skin): most studies measure at 8–12 weeks.
  • Creatine: strength studies measure at 4–12 weeks.
  • Biotin (hair and nails): studies run 3–6 months.
  • GLP-1 medicines: in the large trials, weight kept coming off for about a year.

One day won’t tell you much. A trend will tell you everything. That’s what Aeralume shows you.
